Assignments
Through an internship that is customized specifically to your academic track, skill set, and interests, you will gain hands-on,
real-world, international experience in all functional areas of a business and make a difference in the future of small
woman-owned businesses. This personally-satisfying and meaningful internship will be highly respected by potential employers.
The academic level of students who participate in the Women in Progress internship program varies greatly:
- Undergraduate Students
- Graduate Students
- Ph.D. Candidates
Internship Positions
As an intern, you will be matched with a woman-owned business where your skill set fills a need and in an area where you express
interest. Interns generally work in teams (with local staff, volunteers and other students) in order to bring a more diversified
and complete skill set to each client engagement. You may be assigned to multiple clients, in addition to providing one-on-one
support through the Women’s Technology Center.
Don’t worry! There will be plenty of time to explore the town in the evening and travel on the weekends. Find out more about

Internship Activities
Example internship activities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Introduce a woman entrepreneur to office applications (i.e. Word, Excel, etc.)
- Assist women business owners with computerizing their record-keeping systems through simple accounting systems (i.e. Quicken)
- Show businesses how to be more productive through effective email communication with vendors and clients
- Help a small business create a marketing plan and execute it through designing and creating brochures (i.e. desktop publishing tools)
- Assist a woman entrepreneur with Internet research for potential expansion into new markets
- Create a comprehensive business plan for a small business planning to grow through product exporting
- Generate new product ideas for successful export to the U.S. and Europe
- Help businesses prepare for international trade via the Internet through the creation of product descriptions, graphic design and web page development

Internship Program Overview
Academic Credit
As a student, you may be able to receive academic credit for your internship abroad with Women in Progress, whether directly for
a class, an independent studies program, or a thesis/dissertation. You may decide to consult directly with your academic advisor
to initiate the process of obtaining academic credit for your internship. Otherwise, Women in Progress would be happy to directly
assist you in this process.
Women in Progress can assist student through the following:
- Consult with your academic advisor/professor/department chair in order to:
- Discuss the Women in Progress internship program
- Understand the learning objectives of your specific track
- Determine number of credits awarded for the internship based on the defined learning objectives and length of internship
- Create an internship curriculum specific to your academic program that outlines the:
- Learning objectives of your program
- Responsibilities and activities for your internship based on the needs of the small business(es) to which you have been assigned
- Reporting procedures (both during and after the internship) that will help determine whether the learning objectives were met
